I am echoing the post of Tech Crunch : “Ning shut down widgetlaboratory”, this is part of the post…

” Ning the build-your-own social network platform, has removed all widgets created by popular premium developer WidgetLaboratory. The news has come without warning and is being met with outrage by a number of users who have spent hundreds of dollars on the widgets to build up their social networks. WidgetLaboratory sells its widgets for around $30 a month, and has managed to become the most popular widget creator on Ning’s platform. “

WidgetLaboratory has posted a notice to its site explaining that it has received no explanation from Ning, and speculates that the shutdown is a result of anti-competitive behavior rather than a breach of the ToS – it’s possible that Ning saw that the company was making a sizable amount of revnue, and was worried that it might make a grab at its users. The site has also posted a form asking users how much they’ve spent on their widgets so they can be properly compensated (apparently through a lawsuit). ….”

WOW!!!! We have customers changing their social networks from Ning to our plattform. Some of them mentioned that they didn’t trust Ning for some of the problems that they experience with them but we didn’t ask for more info….well, know I start seeing about what they were talking about!! I guess there are two sides of the story but the way is presented is not pretty for Ning.

At rSitez, we try to focus in serving our customers well and not focus on competitors. We believe that better technology (that allows deeper customization of the site for less development time) and outstanding Customer Service is the way to go. In any case, we don’t have $44M in VC like them so we focus in Customer Service and better technology that could give us the edge that Ning has with Media, Press Releases and popularity. With behaviour like this, Ning is helping us  to catch them even it is sad for our new industry.

As FYI, we are reaching to widgetlaboratory to offer them rSitez to contine doing business, the least that we can do…

Now, a question for Ning Admins. Are you having issues with Ning? What problems fo you have?

Why would you blindly go into business with a company with known issues? Dumb

For the facts that both companies shared it it’s difficult to know responsabilities or what is the truth but it clear that there are plenty of Ning customers unhappy. This is not good customer service period. I don’t even consider widgetlaboratory pain but the thousands of netwroks affected without notice for this decision. I would like to explore opportunites with widgetlaboratory, their apps were very good and we always welcome talent if we can serve our customers better.
