With the latest economic news and presidential candidates that talk about the ‘broken’ economy, regular people are turning towards the Internet to find great tips to make some savings during economic turmoil.

The information posted online includes reviews from the Internet users as a part of what we call “social networking”. Several websites offer great information about retail deals such as:

http://www.bargainshare.com/

http://www.gottadeal.com/

http://www.fatwallet.com

In these sites, one learns about special online and offline offers. It is not rare to find a post that says “Home Depot located in South Chicago is liquidating its BBQs offering up to 90% off” and this is followed for some comments from other users like “yeah! I get a Weber Model xxxx for only $100, thanks!”

I personally like fatwallet as they offer cash back and coupons from a bunch of well know brands and stores.

These websites like fatwallet have great online traffic and are built with forums. I honestly think they will be able to offer a better experience with a full social networking site. But, as you know, I am biased with social networking. Eventually they will do it. In fact, if some of the people from these sites read this post and want to build one with us, you are welcome. You will not be disappointed!

Continuing with the topic, there are more secret websites that are really interesting to be aware of, one of them is PriceProtecTR , it’s free and they inform you in case the prices of items bought by you are reduced so you can ask for a refunds to retailers. Sweet! You do not need to check if something is cheaper two weeks after you buy it. What make these people more interesting is that they are even going to honor a 30 day price matching for Amazon.com after the company has stopped refunding money for this policy, read their post about it.

In addition, with Amazon.com, there is a nice trick to know. If you are looking for deals in their website, I am sure that you have visited their “gold box” where they put great deals for one or two hours. The problem is that you need to keep looking what the next item will be and this is disappointing in case any of the deals offered for the day include something you wish to buy. Well there is one website; lightingdeals that tell you what items will be later on that day. The last time I checked their website, it stated “under construction”. However, in the meantime, they are putting the info as a comment directly in the “gold box” discussion forum with the title “lighting deals” so this is even better as you do not have to leave the amazon.com site to know their next gold box deals.

These are a few examples for finding good deals on the net along with info about how to save money in your every day routines. In Japan, one of the most popular blogs is from American-born, Japan-based blogger Thomas Hjelm. His blog nihonhacks.com has plenty of useful and curious tips like “how to never waste rice again” and there are other similar tips in blogs, one which I like a lot is the list that appears in zenhabits with 106 Money-Saving Tips for a frugal lifestyle.

What I did not find yet is a social networking site where people share their tips, deals and more in a more collaborative way. I really think it will be successful attempt. So here is my “Deal of the Week”, if you think that you are passionate about finding good deals, you can build a successful online community around money-savings tips and deals, sign up for our starting plan gold ($29/month) and I will upgrade your account to a corporate plan ($225/month) absolutely free. This offer is limited to the first five so act now! Sign up and send me an email with your info so I can upgrade your account. I love to see more tips!

Also, please let me know if you know about websites that offer money saving tips.

Wow..thanks for the tips! We are on a very limited budget and live too far away from amenties to shop for a lot of bargains. I will go to these sites when I’m done here. I just heard on the news last nite, that a lot of people are now using the Dollar stores more regularly. There is not one very close to us, so I need to checkout some of these links. Thanks.

Everyone is practically starving financially today. I do a lot of online shopping, so it is great to know about savings sites for us overpaying Americans.

19. Jo - October 4, 2008

I have not been doing “a lot” of shopping at all. When I do, I prefer online shopping for the deals and it lessens my impulse buying problem.

I am often on the lookout for savings on tech gear. I like DealDogs.net because you can get email alerts by category so you only get alerts on what you are looking for. It also includes product videos as well as detailed information about the products.
